Young Filipino-Americans studying the Ilocano Language under the Ilokano Language Acquisition and Immersion for the Next Generation (I-LAING 3 ) Project, gave an impressive cultural presentation in Ilokano in honor of Consul General Gina Jamoralin on January 13, 2018 at the Flipino Community Center. The presentation was directed by Prof. Aurelio Agcaoili, Chair of the Ilokano Department, University of Hawaii who is also the instructor for the I-LAING 3 class in cooperation with a team of UH-Ilokano Department volunteers.
I-LAING, now on its third year, is a joint community project initiated by the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu in 2015 in collaboration with the Candonians of Hawaii, United Laoaguenos of Hawaii, Filipino Community Center, University of Hawaii-Ilokano Department, Philippine Airlines. Other partners are the Renato and Maria Etrata Foundation and Western Union.
I-LAING is a three-month Ilokano language begginer course conducted at the Filcom Center in Waipahu designed for young Filipino-Americans born and raised in Hawaii aimed at helping them rediscover their Philippine heritage and learn the language of their parents and grandparents. After completion of the course, selected best students get to participate in an all-expenses paid ten-day immersion program in the Ilocos region. (END).
