Press Release No. - 06 - 2020
(17 February 2021) – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu attended the launch of the “Pinoy Food Stories: Evolution of Philippine Cuisine”, an interactive online short course on Philippine cuisine on 12 February 2021. The 5-part online series was developed by the Mama Sita Foundation, in partnership with the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa (UHM), and with the support of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu.
During the inaugural session of the webinar series, Dr. Pia Arboleda, Director of the Center for Philippine Studies and Coordinator of the Filipino and Philippine Literature Program at the UHM and Paolo Ven Paculan of the Ateneo de Manila Junior High School provided an introduction to the series, set expectations, as well as oriented participants on what Filipino food is and how our history shaped how we cook food and what we eat.
The next module of the course, “Indigenous Foodways: The Roots of Philippine Cuisine,” will happen on 19 February 2021 from 3:00-5:30 PM HST. The rest of the modules will take place every Friday until March 12 under the same time slots.
Due to the overwhelming response to the online food course, the organizers will hold another run of the webinar series sometime in April. Interested participants can register at https://pinoyfoodstories.weebly.com/registration.html. (END)
