PRESS RELEASE NO. 19-2021

Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, 24 May 2021 –   Consul General Joselito A. Jimeno met the Project Team for the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu’s Building Project on Friday, 21 May 2021 to express appreciation for the successful construction of the Consular Annex Building and the renovation of the Chancery.

The Consul General thanked the Consulate’s Building Committee and representatives of Rider Levett Bucknall, which served as Project Manager of the Consulate’s Building Project, and Mason Architects, Inc. which designed the Consulate’s buildings.  He called the two buildings a “legacy we can be proud of” and a highlight of this year’s 75th anniversary of Philippines-United States diplomatic relations.

In 2018, the Philippine Government authorized the renovation of the century-old Chancery building and the construction of a Consular Annex for the services to the public.

The Consular Annex, which was designed to closely harmonize with the design of the existing Chancery, was completed in November 2020.

The Chancery’s renovation was completed in March 2021.

The Philippine Consulate General has been in Hawaii since the Philippines and the United States established formal diplomatic relations 75 years ago.  The first office of the Consulate General was inaugurated on 30 December 1946 in the Dento Medical Building at 36 South Kukui Street in Honolulu. The said office opened to the public on 05 January 1947.

The first Consul General was Modesto Farolan.  Ambassador Joselito Jimeno is the 21st Consul General of the Philippine Consulate General in Hawaii.  END
