(12 August 2021, Honolulu, Hawaii) - The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu and the Philippines’ National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will be virtually inaugurating the Sentro Rizal Honolulu on 26 August 2021 at 3:00-5:00 PM. The event will be live-streamed at the Facebook Pages of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu (@PHinHonolulu) and Sentro Rizal Honolulu (@SentroRizalHonolulu). During its inauguration, attendees will be able to listen to the lecture of Professor Felipe De Leon, former Chair of the NCCA, on "Living Filipino Cultures and their Artistic Expressions". After the talk, cultural performances from the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, Madrigal Singers, Ballet Philippines, and more will be shown to showcase the richness and vibrancy of Filipino culture.
About Sentro Rizal
Sentro Rizal Honolulu is an institution whose main objective is the promotion of Filipino art, culture, and languages to local audiences in Hawai’i. It is part of a global network of Sentro Rizal located in various Philippine embassies and consulates around the world.
Sentro Rizal Honolulu is located at the newly renovated chancery of the Philippine Consulate located on Pali Highway. The Center is named after Dr. Jose Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero. His life and works sparked the country’s quest for nationhood. Just as Rizal helped imbue a sense of love for the country, Sentro Rizal Honolulu hopes to spark the interest and desire of Filipinos in Hawai’i, especially the youth, to learn more about the Philippines and engender pride in their Filipino heritage.
Through the organization of events, lectures, language classes, and cultural performances, the Center hopes to increase appreciation for the Philippines and its culture.
