11 January 2022 - Consul General Emil Fernandez paid a courtesy call on Admiral John Aquilino, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (U.S. INDOPACOM), last January 10 at Camp H.M. Smith, Honolulu. Consul General Fernandez and Admiral Aquilino assumed their current positions in November 2021 and April 2021, respectively.
During the call, views were exchanged on the general state of Philippines and U.S. relations, including defense and security cooperation, the challenges posed by COVID and joint efforts to tackle the pandemic, as well as the humanitarian assistance extended by the U.S. Government, including the support provided for communities affected by Typhoon Odette. They affirmed the Philippine-U.S. partnership as a strategic and valuable alliance rooted in the two nations’ histories, values and people-to-people relations.
Consul General Fernandez also met with General Steven Rudder, Commander of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC), last 7 January. MARFORPAC is one of the four component commands of the U.S. INDOPACOM. (END)
