PRESS RELEASE NO. 03-2022

25 January 2022, Honolulu – Consul General Emil Fernandez received Mr. Raymond “Mon” Abrea, Chairman and CEO, Asian Consulting Group and Co-Chair of the Philippines’ Ease of Doing Business (EODB) Task Force on Paying Taxes at the Philippine Consulate General on 20 January 2022.

A tax reform advocate, Mr. Abrea has served as a resource person in conferences and legislative committee hearings.  He is a tax consultant and has written for various publications, such as the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Business World, and Rappler’s online column #AskTheTaxWhiz.  In pursuit of his advocacy, he has published several books on taxation, such as “Got A Question About Taxes? #AskTheTaxWhiz” and “Iwas BUWISit: What To Do When Tax Attacks? #AskTheTaxWhiz.”

The meeting served as an opportunity to introduce himself to Consulate personnel and discuss the latest economic developments in the Philippines.  Mr. Abrea is in the US with visits that include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Washington DC, and New York to conduct financial literacy briefings, focusing particularly on investments and taxation. A session with the Hawaii-Philippines Business Economic Council (HPBEC) is scheduled this 3 February.
