Honolulu Hawaii, USA, 18 February 2022 – In the lead-up to International Women’s Day next month, the Philippine Consulate General recognized the accomplishments of three Hawaii-based Filipino-American women achievers. 

Philippine Consul General in Honolulu Emil Fernandez recently conveyed his congratulations to the following exemplary individuals and lauded them for their significant achievements, which he hopes will inspire future generations of Filipinos:

1. Amefil (Amy) Agbayani on her appointment as commissioner to US President Joe Biden’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Dr. Agbayani, together with the other 22 members of the commission was sworn in by US Vice President Kamala Harris and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra last 03 February in Washington D.C.

As Commissioner, Dr. Agbayani will aid and work closely with President Biden in pushing for equity, building capacities, and advancing opportunities for the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities across the United States.

2. Senator Bennette Misalucha on receiving the Banaag Award for the 2021 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO) of the Commission on Filipino Overseas (CFO). Senator Misalucha was recognized for her substantial contributions that have benefited the Filipino community in Hawaii.

3. Fil-Am journalist Annalisa Burgos on receiving the Media Advocate Award for the 2021 Migration and Media (MAM) Awards of the CFO. Burgos was recognized for her work in raising public awareness on issues affecting Filipino migrants, advocating for their welfare, and promoting a positive image of overseas Filipinos amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
