PRESS RELEASE NO. 14-2022
(9 March 2022, Honolulu, Hawaii) - Consul General Emil Fernandez met yesterday with the President of the Filipino Young Leaders Program (FYLPRO), Ms. Leezel Tanglao, and other members of the organization who are based in Hawaii, namely: Sergio Alcubilla, Randy Cortez, Brandon dela Cruz, Elizabeth Obod-Frilles, and Christal Ann Simanski. FYLPRO is an organization of high performing next generation leaders who have a passion for advancing the interests of the Philippines and the Filipino people through local immersion, mentoring, and advocacy projects. Since its inception in 2012, the organization, together with the DFA and Ayala Foundation, has selected 10-15 delegates every year (with the exception of 2020 and 2021) to participate in a week-long immersion program in the Philippines, where they are given opportunities to network and learn from distinguished government, business, and community leaders in the country. Hawaii has produced nine (9) delegates since the program’s inception. Recently, FYLPRO opened its membership to non-alumni to further support its mission to create greater impact to Filipino communities both in the Philippines and the United States. Also joining the dinner tendered by Consul General Fernandez were State Senator Bennette Misalucha, FYLPRO Board Member Annalisa Burgos, Vice Consul Andrea Christina Caymo-Kauhanen, and Mr. Constancio Paranal of the University of Hawai’i in Manoa.
