PRESS RELEASE NO. 26-2022

31 May 2022, Honolulu, Hawaii – Acting Head of Post Grace Anne G. Bulos launched today the “Colors of Freedom” Exhibit at the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu (PCGH) in commemoration of Philippine National Flag Days.

In her remarks, Ms. Bulos shared that Philippine National Flag Days was first instituted through then President Diosdado Macapagal’s Presidential Proclamation No. 374 issued on March 06, 1965 to commemorate the first time the Philippine flag was unfurled after the Philippine Revolutionary Army defeated Spanish forces at the battle of Imus, Cavite in 1898. She added that then President Fidel Ramos further extended National Flag Days from May 28 to June 12 through Executive Order No. 179 issued on May 23, 1994. All Filipinos are encouraged to display the Philippine Flag in their offices, agencies, schools, and homes during that period.

Ms. Bulos also announced a photo contest in conjunction with the exhibit, and invited attendees to take and share their photos at the exhibit online with the hashtag #PHFlagDaysinHawaii for a chance to win a bag of goodies from the Consulate.

The exhibit will run until 03 June 2022 and features eight (8) installations provided by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) showcasing trivia about the history of the Philippine Flag. Consulate personnel and members of the Filipino community participated in the activity.

As an online activity for National Flag Days, Post will also publish trivia on the flag until June 12. END
